
Christine Routzahn
Director
Christine has over 20 years of professional experience in career development and experiential education. She has a proven record of successfully developing, coordinating and promoting new programs and establishing strong relationships with students, employers, faculty and academic programs. Prior to starting as Director in August 2013, Christine oversaw UMBC’s Internship Programs through the Shriver Center and worked within the Baltimore County School System for various School-to-Work initiatives. She currently serves as an active board member and past President of the Maryland Career Consortium. She is passionate about helping others see their career potential and inspiring students to take action to achieve their career goals.

Bio
Donna brings 25+ years of customer service experience to the team at the Career Center. She has worked in the medical field in multiple capacities, most recently, running the office for a busy spine physiatrist, and prior to that, she was the owner of a bakery, coffee shop and restaurant. Donna is always looking for a way to help others and to use her positive attitude to help keep the day fun and moving toward the common goal.

Paige joined the Career Center team in August of 2017, as an Assistant Director and was promoted to Associate Director in March of 2023. Previously, she worked as a Special Events Program Assistant for Institutional Advancement at UMBC, planning events that supported the departmental efforts in cultivating meaningful relationships with campus supporters. In her current position, she connects students and alumni to employers by growing employer relationships and planning recruitment programs. She is a proud alumna of UMBC.

A UMBC alumna, Diane has over 20 year’s professional experience in career development in higher education. Prior to returning to UMBC, she worked as a recruitment and placement specialist for Baltimore County’s Community College system. Currently, she oversees the Center’s Career Specialists team, Career Peer program and educational and training components. She continues to counsel students to help them realize their passions and dreams. Diane is an active member of the Maryland Career Consortium, Maryland Career Development Association and the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers. She also serves as the campus coordinator for the annual Black Engineer of the Year Conference sponsored by Career Communications Group. Diane is a former Professional Staff Senate president and a former recipient of the Student Affairs Outstanding Staff award.

Dr. Rowena Winkler
Assistant Director for Graduate Student Career Development
Primary Duties
- Provide in-person and virtual career coaching/counseling to current graduate students and alumni.
- Administer and interpret career and education decision making assessments including the MBTI and Focus 2 during one-on-one career coaching appointments.
- Foster relationships and collaborations with various campus partners, including Graduate Program Directors, to increase graduate student engagement efforts and leverage resources to promote their career skills development.
- Lead departmental efforts with the development of workshops and modules aimed to prepare masters and doctoral students to guide them through their career development and/or career transition process.

Dr. Rowena Winkler joined the UMBC Career Center in January 2024. She uses her Ph.D. in Communication, along with her 15+ years of experience in marketing and communication, to help individuals gain clarity in their jobs, businesses, and lives through more authentic communication practices. As an award-winning teacher and scholar, Rowena presented at international conferences and mentored hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students. She then made a career pivot from academia to industry, leading communication teams and managing marketing projects. Now as a career and empowerment coach, Rowena’s methods enable clients and students to build confidence, get unstuck, and land their dream careers.
