Student Use of Career Center Services

Currently enrolled degree-seeking (undergraduate and graduate) and certificate students are eligible to utilize all services offered and attend all events hosted by the UMBC Career Center.

Accommodation Requests

If you require special accommodations due to a disability, please notify us at least two weeks prior to an event/appointment. Requests received after that time cannot be guaranteed, but we will do our best to make the proper arrangements. Please email us with your specific request – be sure to include title, date, and time of the event/appointment.

The UMBC Career Center strives to work solely with employers that abide by UMBC’s Equal Opportunity such standards.

The UMBC Career Center provides job placement related services to students and alumni. UMBC is not responsible for employers’ representations or guarantees with regard to job postings, nor is it responsible for wages, working conditions, safety, or other work-related issues that may arise after placement with an employer. If an individual believes that they are being discriminated against in the workplace, they should use the employer’s internal discrimination complaint process and/or consult private legal counsel. There may also be government agencies that will receive such complaints.

UMBC is not responsible for fraudulent job postings, however if a job listed on Handshake is found to be fraudulent, please report it immediately to careers@umbc.edu or call 410-455-2216 so that it can be removed from Handshake and any other applicants can be notified. Data Privacy

The Career Center (CC) of The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is committed to providing privacy of personal information for users of the Career Center. The Career Center operates computer systems that are developed and maintained by University technical staff. The Career Center also partners with external organizations for reference materials, the resume database, on-campus recruiting, job listings and credentialing services. Information regarding those partner organizations can be found below.

Information collected and maintained by the CC is for the purpose of providing comprehensive career and job search assistance to the UMBC student and alumni population. Information in the systems may also be used to generate reports to assist with future planning and to relay progress to UMBC constituents. Handshake is a shared system of UMBC’s Career Center, and The Shriver Center.

The CC’s collection and access to students’ personal information is governed by federal policy under the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
